Mike Minicky created amazing characters in his book Next Move, which connects to Your Move by Danielle Maya. The story introduces a small group of boys: Bobbie, Tyler, Brad, and Mark, set before cell phones, when kids roamed the town on bikes with walkie-talkies in hand, and spare batteries in their backpacks. Each day starts without an agenda and ends with an adventure. (I picture Goonies, Stand By Me, Stranger Things, Paper Girls, and Super 8. A nostalgic time, I think about daily. And any book or movie that reminds me of it is desperately sought after.) Minicky suggested exploring a side series focused on the boys’ separate adventures might be fun. So here is Bobbie & Friends, an exciting expansion of that world.
Authors can still hook up to the book Next Move at any point throughout or from the end, fracturing it in new directions or continuing its trajectory. But Bobbie & Friends is where each book can be its own adventure, like a Hardy Boys or Nancy Drew type of structure. It doesn’t have to be a mystery; the tone can vary: horror, high school romance, comedy, drama. There’s room for creativity in every genre.
Writers are also welcome to hook up to any of these Bobbie & Friends books, expanding their direction and continuing them like the Prepping Down The Rabbit Hole series. This is just a fun spin-off that we felt several authors would enjoy, and I hope many readers will have as much fun reading the books as the authors did writing them.
