‘Beyond The Window’, a companion novella inspired by the worlds of Stephanie James Publishing and William Hope Hodgson. This is a “Bridge” that burrows deep into the middle of PDRH 1&2, starting and ending right in the middle, adding a thick layer of detail to a woman on the brink of insanity.
After grief, isolation, and the slow unraveling of her sanity, a woman has withdrawn into the old farmhouse she once shared with Owen. Her books no longer comfort her, the silence inside the house feels heavier by the day, and strange moments begin to fracture what little certainty she has left. When a black cat appears in her kitchen and dies before her, and impossible events begin unfolding around her, she finds herself standing at the one place she can no longer ignore: the window.
Leaning into the warm air, through the two panes of open glass, she prays that sunlight, fields, and the familiar stillness of her rural world will steady her. Instead, beyond the frame of the window, it becomes far more dangerous and quickly steals her senses. Reality begins to stretch and peel away. The stars no longer remain distant. Vast constellations twist with unnatural motion, strange lights pulse through endless dark spaces, and impossible visions of forgotten worlds, monstrous shapes, and cosmic landscapes begin unfolding before her. Time bends. Space distorts. The boundary between observer and prisoner begins to blur.
As she is drawn deeper into what lies Beyond the Window, she must confront whether she is witnessing a hidden layer of existence… or whether her unraveling mind has opened a door never meant to be seen. When the visions finally loosen their grip, she is pulled back into the farmhouse where another impossible guide waits in silence: the dead cat.
Beyond the Window serves as a haunting companion novella that bridges Prepping Down the Rabbit Hole with deeper cosmic horror, surreal wonder, and the unsettling realization that some windows are not meant to be opened… only looked through.
